Kevin Bates, age 61, of Dayton, Ohio passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017 at his home.

He was born July 3, 1955 in Versailles to Sterling Andrew and Jean Braden Bates. On August 12, 1989 in Stover, he was united in marriage to Donna Snyder, who survives at the home.

He worked as a maintenance supervisor for environmental services.

Kevin was an accomplished musician. He was an avid Cardinals Baseball fan and enjoyed racing. He loved spending time with his family and always looked forward to coming down to the family cabin at Big Buffalo.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his mother, Jean Bates of Tipton; five children and their spouses, Joe and Shannon Bates of Burlington, Iowa, Steven and Mary Bates of Columbia, Chuck and Jen Goode, Shannan and Allen Knopp all of Farmer City, Illinois, and Andrew Smock of Dayton, Ohio; one brother, Mark Bates and wife Maria of Columbia; two sisters, Tricia Boehlen of Tipton and Pamela Dehdashti and husband Hamid of Olathe, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Neila and Chance Bates, Charlie Goode, Tara Edwards, Logan and Journey Knopp, and Grayson Smock; his first great grandson due any day; and several nieces and nephews.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Rev. Dinzel Webb officiating. Burial will be in the Big Buffalo Cemetery. Joe Bates, Allen Knopp, Braden Boehlen, Chuck Goode, Mitchell Bates, and Nicholas Boehlen will serve as pallbearers. Eldon, Conrad, and Barry Braden, Henry Cable, Terry Newgaard, Ralph Henson, Rob Snyder, and Kelvin Boehlen are honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Family of Kevin Bates’ Memorial Fund.
