Kenneth L. Schuster, 80, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Bethesda Gardens. He was born on June 20,1935, in Blackwater, MO, to Frances Kincaid Schuster and Elmer Schuster. He hitchhiked to Terre Haute to live with his brother's family and attend Indiana Teacher's College where he received his B.S. He continued his education with a M.S. from Purdue.
He was married to Virginia Jones for almost 52 years until her death in 2010.Survivors include his children, Lee Ann Wells and her husband Don of Terre Haute, and Greg Schuster and his wife Kelly of Matthews, North Carolina. He was the best grandpa ever to his 3 grandchildren-Jared Wells, Alec Schuster, and Sydney Schuster. Grandpa was the biggest kid in the bunch! He is survived by three of his sisters-Mary Crawford, Dorothy Davis, and Edna Epperson and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kenneth found a special love in his later years, Mary Catherine Johnson, who preceded him in death. Their time together was precious but much too short. He also had a special dog, Sadie, who was his sidekick until he could no longer care for her.
His happiest times were spent with children. He taught math for many years. He coached baseball, served on the Vigo County School Board, and was a favorite and fun uncle to many nieces and nephews. He volunteered at Terre Town Elementary and was the class "grandpa" for his daughter's first grade class- reading with kids, bringing them treats, and passing out money for field trip souvenirs. He loved his "kids".
Ken was full of energy and was always on the move. He enjoyed running, fishing, golfing, working in the yard-anything that kept him from sitting. He was a member of Cross Lane Church where he played church softball until his body could stand it no more!
Visitation for Ken will be on Sunday, June 5th, from 4:00-6:00 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Please join family and friends for a celebration of life at 6:00.
On Tuesday, June 7th, Ken will return to his Blackwater home, where a celebration of life for all family and friends will occur at 10:00 at the Old Lamine Church of Christ with burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers Donations may be made to Vigo County Education Foundation.
Condolences and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net.
