Kenneth E. Lammers

Kenneth E. Lammers, 88, of Blackwater, passed away Saturday evening, June 4, 2022, at Lakeview Healthcare and Rehab in Boonville.

Kenny was born October 1, 1933, to Herman and Mary Lammers of rural Pilot Grove. He attended first grade at Choteau Springs school which was on the family farm. He then attended Martinsville Catholic School, where he graduated in 1946. Then, he attended Pilot Grove Public School and graduated in 1951.

After graduation, he was drafted into the Army in 1953, where he was sent to Fort Riley, Kansas for basic training. After basic training, he spent 16 months in the Korean War where he was promoted to the rank of Corporal.

After returning home, he began farming. He married Patricia Marie Felten in 1957.

They purchased Albert Earl Alley’s farm in 1960 in the Blackwater area. Kenny was a businessman who was involved in many ventures in his life. In addition to farming, he began a trucking business where he hauled grain and livestock.

He bought a grain elevator in 1970, owning it and a farm retail store, until 1980. He also operated a convenience store at Route K junction and I-70 from 1980 to 1995.

Kenny was the school bus contractor for Pilot Grove C-4 for 20 years.

He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was past Grand Knight.

Kenny was very involved in the community. He was a member of the Blackwater Lion’s Club and had served on the Blackwater school board. He was an avid sports lover who played, umpired and coached many teams throughout his life. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs. His pride and joy was watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports.

He was blessed to have seven children, three sons and four daughters. Deborah Lynn “Debbie” Lammers died shortly after birth. Ted Lammers, the oldest son, passed away in 2016. Preceding him in death were his siblings, Gertrude Felten, Lillian Twenter and Fred Lammers.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Patricia; children, Terri Stambaugh (Jon) of Wardsville, Jeff Lammers (Cindy) of Boonville, Lisa Young (Greg) of Pilot Grove, Dwain Lammers (Janna) of Pilot Grove, and Jackie Stegner (Greg) of Blue Springs; daughter-in-law, Cathy Lammers of Pilot Grove; ten grandchildren, Courtney Leonard (Ben), Keyton Lammers (Kelsey), Kacie Reuter (Preston), Morgan Lammers, Trenton Young, Vanessa Lammers, Blake Stegner, Danae Lammers, Mikayla Stegner and Marci Lammers; six great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Lammers.

The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilot Grove, with visitation to follow until 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the church.

Casket bearers will be Greg Twenter, Keyton Lammers, Trenton Young, Blake Stegner, Ben Leonard and Preston Reuter.

Honorary bearers will be Kenny’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Burial with military honors will follow the Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the athletic department at Pilot Grove School.
