Kathleen Phelps

March 1, 1932 — June 13, 2021

On the 1st day of March in 1932, August and Laura Alpers Steinmeyer welcomed a daughter into their family and named her Kathleen Louise.  She was baptized and confirmed in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover.  She was a graduate of Stover High School and shortly after graduation moved to Kansas City, where she received her associate degree from Longview Community College.

Kathleen married Cecil Dills and to this union four children were born.  On July 13, 1966, in Kansas City, Missouri, Kathleen married Clayson Phelps, who preceded her in death December 22, 1998.

Kathleen worked for Western-Electric in Lee’s Summit, retiring as supervisor.

It was in the 90’s that Kathleen and Clay decided to move back to her hometown, building a home at the edge of the city limits.  It was in Stover that she found time to open her dream shop, Dabber’s Depot, where her creative side could truly be expressed.  She held painting and quilting classes for local residents and also kept busy working at several businesses in town.

It was early Sunday morning, June 13, 2021, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover, that Kathleen Phelps received the promise of eternal life.

Survivors include three children and their spouses, Karin and Frank Weaver of Stover; Jay and Karen Dills of Kansas City and Alecia and Kenneth Sanders of Arlington, Tennessee; a daughter-in-law, Linda Dills of Stover; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Betty Steinmeyer of Stover; a sister, Joyce Acton of Gladstone; fourteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Clay, Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, three sons, Gary Dills, Robert Phelps and Richard Phelps, one daughter, Sandy Phelps, two brothers, Vernon Steinmeyer and Marlin Steinmeyer and two sisters, Berniece Hoppen and Norma Steinmeyer.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.  Interment will be in the Stover Cemetery.
