Julia Fern Ray

Julia Fern Markum Ray, age 73, of Gravois Mills, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at her home.
She was born May 3, 1943, in Laurie, a daughter of Garland Wayne and Lillian Ellen Burkhart Markum. On January 31, 1960, Julia was united in marriage to Johnie I. Ray, who survives at their home.
She was a 1961 graduate of Versailles High School.
Julia and Johnie are business owners in the Mill Creek Arm of the Lake of the Ozarks. She was also active in many organizations in the area.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed being with her family and living at the lake.
In addition to her husband of 56 years, she is survived by four children, Sherry Christiansen and husband Steve, Anita Jo Ellis, Jacque Higginbotham and husband Bill and J.R. Ray and wife Melissa all of Gravois Mills; a son-in-law, John "Dave" Waddell of Gravois Mills; seven siblings, Jeanie Lutman and husband Larry of Versailles; Betty Markum of Vancouver, Washington; Robert Markum and wife Sharon of LaGrande, Oregon; Patricia Long and husband Wayne of LaGrande, Oregon; Walter Markum and wife Vicky of Dalles, Oregon; Susan Houge and husband Charlie of White Salmon, Washington and Charlene Wame of LaGrande, Oregon; 20 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren (with one on the way), along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Tina Waddell, Julia and Johnie's oldest daughter, passed away a few hours after her mother on Tuesday, June 14.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents and a half-brother, Rodney Wayne Markum.
A Celebration of Life reception will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, at the Old G-5 Station, 122 Firehouse Road, (off O Road) in Laurie, MO 65038. The family request casual dress.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Gravois Fire Association, 215 Highway O, Laurie, MO 65038 or Regional Hospice, 514 W Fremont Road, Lebanon, MO 65536.
