Joyce Ann Riley

Joyce Ann Riley age 68, of Versailles, passed away Sunday morning, June 25, 2017, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.  She was born July 31, 1948 in El Dorado, Kansas, the oldest of three children born to David and Naoma Varner Thompson.   She grew up in Arkansas City, Kansas the daughter of a pharmacist and stay-at-home mom.  It was through her mother she obtained her love of quilting and through her father; her drive and passion for making a difference in the world.   Joyce’s desire to do for others led her to the University of Kansas, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.  Within that role she became active as an expert witness in many medical cases.  Her willingness to serve brought her to the Air Force as a flight nurse, where she received her honorable discharge in 1979.  In 1991, she returned to the Air Force Reserves, as a flight nurse aboard C-130 missions in support of operation Desert Storm, achieving the rank of Captain.  Following her service to her country, Joyce found her true calling in radio, where she was the voice and advocate for the American Gulf War Veterans Association.  Her show, the Power Hour Radio program, joined the GCN network in 2000, becoming a voice for all veterans and truth seekers.  For the past 20 years, Joyce has resided in the Versailles area, enjoying her small acreage, while remaining an advocate for all those in need.  She is survived by her brother, Danny Thompson of Arkansas City, Kansas; along with many friends and fans.  Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dallas Thompson.  A Celebration of Joyce's life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles, with a Memorial Reception to follow from 2:30 -4:00 p.m.  Please bring stories of Joyce to share.  Private inurnment will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Rolling Thunder TX2, PO Box 60009, Houston, TX  77205.  Rolling Thunder® TX 2's major function is to publicize the POW-MIA issue.
