Joyce Elaine Burns

Joyce Elaine Burns, age 62 of Tipton, Missouri passed away Saturday morning, July 13, 2019 at Moniteau Care Center in California, Missouri.

Joyce was born April 11, 1957 to Henry Lewis and Joyce Bennett Thompson at Scott Air Force Base in St. Clair County, Illinois. Her father was a career military officer, and was reassigned to Luke Airforce Base near Glendale, Arizona when Joyce was young. At the age of 21, while still living in Arizona, she met and married Michael John Burns on June 8, 1978. They had just recently celebrated their 41st anniversary.

The Burns family moved to Tipton in 1993. They were blessed with four children, three of whom have also made their family’s homes in Tipton.

While raising four children and taking care of her home, Joyce also worked for some time as a Pharmacy Tech in Arizona as well as at St. Mary’s Pharmacy after moving to Tipton. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, attending auctions and trying to find the perfect antique. She was an excellent cook and was always willing to share whatever she made. She truly loved her family especially her grandkids.

Joyce had the ability to brighten everyone’s day with her wonderful sense of humor.

Those preceding Joyce in death were her parents Lewis Henry and Joyce Thompson.

Surviving Joyce are her husband Michael John Burns, Sr. of the home; son Michael John Burns, Jr. of Tipton; daughters Michele Harkins and husband Joshua and Germaine Burns and fiance’ Andrew Hibdon all of Tipton, Sarah Burns of Camdenton, Missouri; brother Henry Lee Thompson of Colorado; sister Allison Thompson-Mills and husband Terry of Arizona; grandchildren Erica, Kaylynn, Alena and Aiden Harkins, all of Tipton, Konnar Furney of Tipton, Addilynn and Remington Hibdon, also of Tipton.

A Memorial Service is planned for Joyce Elaine Burns at 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, Tipton.
