Joyce Y. Bowers

Joyce Y. Bowers, age 73, of Stover, went to be with her Lord, Monday, July 4, 2016, at her home with her husband by her side.
She was born March 3, 1943, in Stover, a daughter of Elroy and Reba Otten Munsterman. On May 28, 1970, in Vinita, Oklahoma Joyce was united in marriage to Jim Bowers, who survives at their home.
She grew up in Stover. She was employed as an aide with the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles and the Golden Age Living Center in Stover. She retired from Barncraft in Versailles.
Joyce was an accomplished Gospel music singer, who had offers to sing in Nashville. Her true passion was singing for her Lord, which led her to stay in Duncan, Oklahoma where she was instrumental in establishing Cowboy churches.
Her life was devoted to friendship, fellowship, service to others, singing Gospel music and her family.
Joyce had served in the Lakeside Community Church in Gravois Mills, the Chisolm Trails Cowboy Church in Duncan, Oklahoma and was a current member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Versailles.
In addition to her husband of 46 years, she is survived by one son, Jimmy Bowers, Jr., of Stover; a stepson, Russell Bowers and wife Stacy of Comanche, Oklahoma; step daughter, Sheri Sparks and husband Tom of New York; one sister, Judy Updike of Orange, California; three grandchildren, Cheyanne, Cody and Preston Bowers, step grandchildren, Cassie and husband Zach, Jeffrey, Sonja, Christopher and Jennifer; two step great grandchildren, Marliegh and Anthony, along with other relatives and many friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Elroy Munsterman, her mother, Reba Hilburn, her stepmother, Cora Munsterman, and one sister, Shirley Dority.
A Celebration of Life service will be 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at Calvary Baptist Church in Versailles with Rev. Gary Patterson and her husband, Jim Bowers officiating.
