Johnnie Ray Lewis, 80, of Syracuse, Missouri passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019 at his residence with his family at his side. He was one of 8 children born to Austin Lee and Lena Belle Lewis near Syracuse.
After graduating from the Tipton High School, he soon married Delores Kruse on February 1, 1957, celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary before her death on August 22, 2016. Johnnie always told everyone they went on a “walking honeymoon” because they didn’t have a car when they got married.
He was a farmer, clearing much of his land by hand. At one time he farrowed over 300 sows. He also worked various times in several different jobs. He worked at Swift’s in Sedalia, worked for the pipeline, and worked at Fischer’s Pool Table factory in Tipton. His passion’s in life were farming, fishing, hunting, and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Delores; brothers Oliver, Elwood, and Paul Lewis; sisters Nadine Kanenbley, Nina Cornelia Howard, and Irene Stemberger.
Johnnie is survived by his daughter Rita NcNeal and her husband Billy of Syracuse; grandson Patrick NcNeal and his wife Heather of Syracuse, granddaughter Melanie Rich of Columbia; 5 great-grandchildren; sister Cora Bell Steele; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton with burial following in the Mt. Olive Cemetery near Florence. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the funeral service.
Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
