John K. “J.K.” Nash, age 75, of Stover, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born March 31, 1943, in Warsaw, Missouri a son of George G. and Hallie B. Kinkead Nash. On November 7, 1974, in Olathe, Kansas J.K. was united in marriage to Colleen D. “Cody” Gray who survives at their home.
He was a 1962 graduate of Turner High School in Kansas City, Kansas.
From May 15, 1964 until December 12, 1969, J.K. served his Country in the Army National Guard and the US Army, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Commendations that he received were Jungle operations course, NCO leadership, National Defense Service medal, Good Conduct with Oak Leaf Cluster medal, Expert Rifleman Medal, Expert 45 Caliber Pistol and Expert RR/106 Rifle Medals. He was proud of his service to his Country and in April of 2018 participated in the Mid-Missouri Honor Flight, where he was able to see a fellow comrade’s name on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
Following his honorable discharge, J.K. worked for Kaw Valley Tunneling and Sanders Heating and Plumbing both located in Kansas City, Kansas. He later retired from UPS in Kansas City, Kansas after many years of employment.
J.K. and Cody moved to the Stover area where they could enjoy their passion for horses and cattle. He spent most of his time outdoors where he could work on his farm; whether it was fixing fence or mowing the yard, J.K. loved his little piece of heaven.
He was a member of the Teamsters Local 541 and had served on the Kinkead Cemetery Board.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, he is survived by two sons and a daughter -in-law, Brian D. Libbee and Jason and Tiffinay Nash all of Stover; four grandchildren, Dylan Libbee, Jenna Kolleen Nash, Shelby Lynn Nash and Tucker Kinkead Nash, two brothers, Joe V. Nash of Stover and Phillip Nash and wife Carol of Kansas City, Kansas; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
J.K. was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bud Raines and Keith Nash and two sisters, Norma DeLorenzi and Bonnie Odell.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 6, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.
A Graveside service, with military honors, will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at the Kinkead Cemetery in Warsaw.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kinkead Cemetery.
