James Henry "Sonny" Sanders

He was born February 23, 1939 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Florence, MO, a son of Norman Arlington and Pearl Josephine (Merk) Sanders. On November 30, 1957 in Otterville, he married Barbara Ellen Arnold who preceded him in death on May 23, 2013.
Sonny was a 1957 graduate of Otterville High School and a member of the Otterville Presbyterian Church. He worked as a mechanic and a cattle farmer. Sonny enjoyed fishing, working on and collecting chainsaws. His passion was working his cattle but he also liked "shooting the bull" with people. Sonny loved getting to spend time with his grandchildren any chance that he could.
Survivors include six children, Jimmy Ray Sanders of Tipton, MO, Keith Sanders (Cricket) of Sedalia, Kenneth Sanders (Sheila) of Syracuse, Linda Lower (Robert) of Otterville, Brenda Tucker of Otterville, and Cody Sanders of Otterville; one brother, Larry Sanders (Rose) of O'Fallon, IL; 14 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to both of his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by his step-father John J. Kuykendall.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Otterville. A private family burial will take place at a later date in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Otterville. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Canon Center for Cancer.
