James "Jim" Phillips

April 12, 1943 — August 27, 2021

Jim Phillips, age 78, of Stover, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 at his home.

It was on April 12, 1943 that Thomas Martin and Lola Mae Drewry Phillips welcomed their baby boy, James Charles into their lives in Berryville, Arkansas.

Following high school, he graduated with an Accounting Degree from Draughon College in Springfield.  After receiving the rank of Staff Supply Sergeant, he was honorably discharged from the Arkansas National Guard and was active with the Army Reserves.

He held positions as office manager for Foremost Dairy, purchasing agent for Morgan County, various pipeline positions, owned and operated Stover Hatchery for almost 40 years, and covered just about all aspects of farming. During the course of his life he was a member of Missouri Farm Bureau, Stover Park Board, Stover Industrial Development, National Poultry Improvement Plan and various other groups and organizations. He was also a member of the Scottish Right Of Freemasonry.

Jim loved “goin fast” in his various cars and toys, floating on the river, reading, farming, and even mowing. He also enjoyed teaching his kids to hunt who in turn have used those lessons to teach their own children. He loved going out to dinner and was always adamant to pick up the tab. Jim had a sweet tooth and was especially fond of a good chocolate malt.

Above all of these things, the thing Jim enjoyed most was spending time with his family and his grandkids.

Left to carry on Jim's legacy are his three children and seven grandchildren. His children are Jamy and wife Erin Phillips of Wentzville; Jermy and wife Katie Phillips of Cole Camp; and Katy and husband Chad Schlesselman of Stover. His grandchildren are James "J", Chase, and Cameron Phillips, Kolton and Jarrett Phillips, and Brayden and Clayton Schlesselman. He is also survived by two brothers, Tom "Tinker" Phillips and wife Sue and Kenny Compton, all of Green Forest, Arkansas; one sister, Janita Carlton and husband Jackie of Blue Eye, Arkansas; his ex-wife, Vi Dale; along with many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Krysty Marie Phillips and a sister, Coyla Hill.

In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m on Friday, September 10, 2021 with a memorial service to be held at 11:30 a.m. at Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Stover, MO. A private inurnment will be held at Stover Cemetery in Stover Missouri.
