James "Jim" H Miller

James Hugh “Jim” Miller, age 75, of Stover passed away Monday, March 29, 2021 at the Golden Age Living Center.

He was born January 9, 1946 in California, Missouri to James “Dorsey” and Wilma “Grace” Francis Miller.

He was a Stover High School alumnus from the class of 1964.

On April 22, 1972, Jim was united in marriage to LaVera Ann Grupe.

Jim was a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Versailles except for five years at Martinton Christian Church in Illinois.

Jim was a hard worker. He moved to Martinton, Illinois at eighteen years old and worked at McCullough’s Imp. Co. for five years as a mechanic, assisting a supervisor and driving a delivery truck hauling machinery from Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

In 1969 he moved back to Stover where he worked for Smithson, Inc. for twelve years as a mechanic. Jim went to work for the Department of Corrections as a Medical Assist. II. After the phasing out of M.A.II, Jim became a Correction’s Officer and worked for Missouri DOC for fifteen years.

Jim worked for Mid-Mo ambulance for two years as an EMT and went to school for paramedic training and worked for eighteen years. He was one of three paramedics in Morgan County at that time. He also worked for the Stover Police Department parttime for several years.

He was a board member of First Christian Church for many years. He also held other roles for the church like being treasurer for several years, teaching Sunday School and helping with Vacation Bible School.

He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting and photography but his greatest enjoyment in life came from spending time with his family.

Those left to carry on Jim’s legacy include his wife, of forty-eight years, LaVera Miller of Stover; a daughter, Jamie Miller of Chillicothe; three granddaughters, Alexis Bridges of Barnett, Holly Bridges of Rochester, Minnesota, and Faith Litton of Concordia; along with many friends and other relatives.

Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Kay Miller; a grandson, Blake Evann Litton; two brothers and their wives; Dorsey Wayne and Mary Miller and Johnny Joe and Bea Miller.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2021 at the First Christian Church in Versailles with John Wagner and Jeff Speilman officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church in Versailles, Show Me Christian Youth Home or the Hopewell Cemetery.
