James F. "Jim" Drury Jr.

James F. "Jim" Drury Jr., age 89, of Stover, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the Tipton Oak Manor.
He was born January 6, 1927, in Lyon County, KS, the oldest of eight siblings, to James F. Sr. and Maggie Lou Cox Drury. On May 27, 1966 at the Big Buffalo Conservation Area he was united in marriage to Elaine Jackson. This day also happen to be Elaine's parents' 40th wedding anniversary.
Jim started working doing odd jobs on different farms in northern Missouri and in Iowa when he was 15 years old. He continued with farming his whole life, eventually working for himself.
He enjoyed fishing, bee hunting, and digging wild roots, like ginseng and gold seal. He always thought he was the boss on everything and loved being able to share his wild roots with his family and neighbors for their ailments.
Along with his wife of 50 years, who survives at their home, he is survived by one son, Fred Drury of Stover and friend Cindy Story of Warsaw; two daughters, Terry Ann Breining of Sweet Springs and Connie Lucille Lewis and husband Jay of Kansas City; two sisters, Linda Hayes of Sedalia and Alta Mae Kampe of Cleveland, MO; seven grandchildren, Peter, Karen, Tyler, Amy, Olivia, Jason, and Jacob; and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Floyd, and Boyd Drury; and two sisters Mary Barker and Peggy Ann Simmons.
Funeral services will be 12:00 (noon) Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Rev. James Butterfield officiating. The song selection will be "The Old Rugged Cross." Burial will be in the Stover Cemetery. Vernon Simmons, David Simmons, Randy Drury, Tyler Scharnhorst, Jordan Parks, and Ethan Braun will be pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Jim Drury Memorial Fund.
