Jack L. Woolery, age 60, of Florence, died unexpectedly Saturday night, December 8, 2007, in Stover.
He was born October 18, 1947, in Florence, a son of Joe Elmer and Catherine Aldrich Woolery. His mother survives in Florence.
On March 5, 1966, in Stover, Jack married Joyce Smith and she survives at their home.
In 1966, Jack was inducted into the United States Army and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. After returning from the war, he went to work at Delong's Steel Company in Sedalia as a skilled welder. For several years Jack and Jim Williams co-owned "Little Bit of Everything" in Stover. He later retired as a machinist at the Dixon-Ticonderoga Pencil Factory in Versailles.
He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Florence. Jack was a volunteer fireman in his earlier years. He enjoyed fishing, camping and tinkering on motors of all kinds, and had built many unique vehicles. He liked playing with his model trains most of all.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by four children, Marcy Hawkins and husband John of Sedalia; Jody Woolery and wife Heather of Sedalia; Angie Connell of Stover and Idee Wilson and husband Don of Sedalia; two sisters, Diana Pummill and husband Gerry of Otterville and Josie Old and husband Rick of Allen, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Adam, Jacob and Joseph Hawkins, Alexis Woolery, Dustin Connell and Tylor, Bryce and Nakia Wilson, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Thursday, December 13, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Rev. Steve Robinson officiating. The music selections of "Mansion Over the Hilltop," "Beyond the Sunset" and "Song for the Unsung Hero" will be played my Angie Robinson, with Michael Smith playing "Amazing Grace" on the viola. Burial, with military funeral honors, will be in the Stover Cemetery. David Stubblefield, Jeremy Pummill, Tom Chandler, Andy Schimek, Scott Wilper, Sean Harris, Philip Mahin and Kevin Lawson will be serving as casket bearers with Adam Hawkins, Jacob Hawkins, Joseph Hawkins, Dustin Connell and Don Wilson serving as honorary bearers.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Thursday, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Jack Woolery memorial fund % Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home.
