Irma Ruth (Viebrock) Kroeschen, formerly of Stover, Missouri died June 7, 2018 at Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Irma was born February 22, 1921, in Stover, the daughter of R.L. and Emma (Hagenah) Viebrock. She was baptized March 13, 1921, by Rev. Weber at Christ Lutheran Church in Stover and confirmed August 18, 1935 by Rev. Schroeder, also at Christ Lutheran Church.
Irma graduated valedictorian from Stover High School in 1939. She was married to Raymond Kroeschen July 11, 1944, at Christ Lutheran Church by Rev. Kolm.
Irma was employed by Story Smithton Quilting of Stover for 16 years. In 1965, she opened her own business Kroeschen Quilting, which she operated for 40 years.
A lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school and catechism classes for more than 40 years. She loved music and sang in the church choir for 70 years. She was a charter member of the church Junior Aide and Ruth Circle.
Irma was an avid history buff. She was well known in the community for her collections of Stover and area Lutheran church histories. She and her husband compiled and published books of the Kroeschen and Viebrock family genealogies. She loved playing the piano, entertaining the residents of her living center until her recent decline in health.
In 2011, after her husband’s heart attack, they moved to Mt. Vernon, to be close to their son and his family.
Irma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, Marie Holsten Ehlers, Mildred Nolting and Emmagene Witte and brother Calvin Viebrock.
She is survived by her son Doug and wife Debby (Merriott). Four grandchildren, Robert Kroeschen of Mt Vernon; Michael (Tami) Kroeschen of Mt. Vernon; Teresa (Wes) Schumm of Mt. Vernon and Steve (Aimee) Kroeschen of Littleton, Colorado; ten great grandchildren, Emmalee Kroeschen, Ella Kroeschen, Brayden Kroeschen, Lucy Kroeschen, Audrey Schumm, Alyssa Kroeschen, Charlotte Schumm, Annabelle Kroeschen, Isabelle Schumm and Caroline Kroeschen.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Christ Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Tom Tuura officiating. Interment will be in the Kipp Addition of the Stover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church in Stover.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Stover or SSM Health Hospices at SMGS.
