Ina Lucille Vogt

Ina Lucille Vogt, age 88, of Versailles passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.

She was born May 29, 1928, in Camden County to John Wesley and Dora Francis Hankins Sumner. On December 22, 1944 in Versailles, Ina was united in marriage with Ralph “Bud” Vogt, who preceded her in death on April 24, 2016.

She worked at various businesses in the Versailles area, including KC Bifocal Plant and Dixon-Ticonderoga Pencil Factory, before retiring from Gates Manufacturing after Bud became ill.  For the next 32 years Ina devoted every day to caring for her husband.

At the age of 60 she obtained her driver's license, ensuring that she and Bud could continue with the activities they enjoyed.  Versailles residents would often meet them in their little pickup truck with "Bud-Ina" on the license plate headed to their favorite fishing spot (and Ina loved to fish) or their secret mushroom patch.  During garage sale season, you could find Ina on the road, hunting treasures locally or with Jo Ann in Columbia. She was an accomplished seamstress and a gifted cook, and if you were lucky enough at Christmas time you would be a recipient of her melt-in-your mouth peanut brittle.

Ina truly believed that the Lord gave her the strength to do everything she was able to accomplish.

She is survived by two children, Steven Vogt and wife Laura of Gravois Mills and Jo Ann Vogt of Bloomington, Indiana; one granddaughter, Melissa Vogt of Columbia; one sister, Josephine Colvin of Versailles and one sister-in-law, Mildred Sumner of Versailles, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Along with her husband and her parents, Ina was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Sumner and Roy Sumner; one sister, Freda Wilson; a brother-in-law, Dorsey Colvin and a sister-in-law, Beulah Sumner.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles. Rev. Roy Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
