Hillary L. Kraus

Hillary Leonard Kraus, 83, of Pilot Grove, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

He was born May 18, 1940, in Clear Creek, son of Theodore Antone and Dora Rose (Kempf) Kraus.

On April 11, 1970, in Clear Creek, he was united in marriage to Donna G. Johnson.

Hillary was a longtime farmer. He had also worked at a grain elevator and did custodial work in later years. He was a member of the St. Joseph parish and formerly the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture, and babysitting his grandchildren. He was a gentle, easy-going, and caring man.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Donna, of the home; three children, Leonard Kraus, of Pilot Grove, Kimberly Gordon (Al), of Dixon, and Carrie Heimericks (Chris), of Tebbetts; ten grandchildren, Savannah (Jonathan), Dustin (Mikayla), Kayla, Britney, Evan, Connor, Alex, Camryn, Abby and Mariah; three great-grandchildren, Damien, Gwendalynn and Freyja; and a brother, Bob Kraus, of Pilot Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant twins; and son-in-law, Michael Nolting.

Prayers of the Rosary will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with visitation to follow until 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Casket bearers will be grandsons: Dustin Kraus, Evan Lacey, Connor Lacey, Alex Heimericks, Damien Lawrence and Jonathan Lawrence.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or School.
