Henry Lee “Hank” Fields, age 84, of Versailles, passed away Sunday morning, February 18, 2018, at his home.
He was born April 18, 1933, in Linn Creek, a son of Frank Dudley Fields, Sr. and Laura Belle Faust Fields. Hank married Norma Jean LaRette and to this union two sons were born, Les Hott and Hank Fields, Jr. He then married Betty Schirlls and to this union three children, Darrel, Tammy and Delbert were born. Hank married Dorothy Fuelling and to this union a daughter, Roxann was born. On July 30, 2014, Hank married Louise Rumans Roll.
He grew up in the Versailles area. He served his country in the United States Army, receiving his honorable discharge in 1955.
Hank worked in the Kansas City area for 20 years in construction. He later returned to the Versailles area where he owned his own construction business, running a bobcat and pouring concrete for numerous building projects throughout central Missouri.
He was an avid outdoorsman; who enjoyed running his construction equipment. He also loved being on the home-place, tending to his garden and raising produce to give to family and friends. When he wasn’t outdoors you could find him in his wood shop where he stayed busy working alongside his son Darrel creating various projects. Hank did not differentiate between his own children or those he acquired through marriage and he looked forward to spending time with his family.
Hank is survived by his wife Louise of the home; thirteen children, Les Hott of Tipton; Hank Fields, Jr. of Illinois; Darrel Fields and wife Tracey of St. Joseph; Roxann Fields of Versailles; Donald Tripp and wife Jean of Maryville; Pam Tripp Fuller and husband Sherman of Clinton; Crystal Fuelling Stevenson of Versailles; Kurt Fuelling of Clinton; Teresa Roll Fretueg and husband Lee of Versailles; Rachel Roll Chiles of Eldon; Karen Roll Rimel and husband John of Tipton and John Roll and wife Ange of Versailles; one brother William “Bill” Fields and wife Billie of Versailles; 33 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Laura Fields, wives, Betty, Dorothy and Norma Jean, three children, Tammy Fields, Delbert Fields and Rick Tripp; four brothers, Thomas Fields, Burlee Fields, Kenneth Fields and Frank Dudley Fields, Jr., and seven sisters, Maxine Goldsberry, Anna Irene Long, Lessie Brown, Hazel Davis, Eva Grace Hopkins, Roberta Ilene Swanigan and Mary Evelyn Fields.
In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated.
A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Gerald Hamlett officiating. Military honors will be rendered following the service.
