Henrietta Soppelsa

August 30, 1922 — May 24, 2020

Henrietta Soppelsa, age 97, of Stover, formerly of Versailles, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2020, at her daughter’s home.

She was born August 30, 1922, in Dixon, a daughter of William and Esta Loague Shanks.  On February 14, 1987, in Versailles, Henrietta was united in marriage to Alfred Soppelsa, who preceded her in death September 3, 2001.

She retired from the KC Bifocal Plant in Versailles.

Henrietta was a country girl at heart and enjoyed listening and dancing to country music.

She was an accomplished woodcarver, known for her Ozark Mountain Men carvings; selling pieces locally and as far away as New York.  Her American eagle carving was on display at the Bank of Versailles Main bank and her Ozark wedding carving adorned the office of Blaine Silvey for many years.

In addition to her artistic ability, Henrietta was known for her sweet smile and never knowing a stranger.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Jane Hart of Stover; her son, Arthur Anthony and wife Sandy of Lebanon, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband Alfred, she was preceded in death by on daughter, Susan B. Anthony Evans, one brother, Loren Shanks and one sister, May Caviness.

In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated.
