Helen Gramlich of Pilot Grove area passed away April 7th, 2018. Helen Louise Jenkins was born March 12, 1923 to Timothy Jenkins and Margaret (Mathias) Jenkins in Kansas City, Missouri. She had three Jenkins siblings: John and Rudy Jenkins and Ann (Jenkins) Merkel who are all deceased. In her younger years, Helen worked at Business Men's Assurance Company in Kansas City. Helen married Roy Edward Gramlich of Clear Creek, Missouri on September 11, 1942. In 1962 they purchased a farm near Pilot Grove where many happy memories were made.
Helen later worked in Columbia, Missouri at the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center for several decades until her retirement. Roy passed in September of 1991. Helen was an active member of her church and loved mystery novels, Coca Cola, Kansas City sports teams and lemon drops. She raised her step-daughter Mary Margaret (Gramlich) Slyngstad with love and care and officially adopted Mary about 1995. Helen had been residing at the Katy Manor Home in Pilot Grove for the last several years.
Helen is survived by her four grandchildren: Vincent Ray Slyngstad in Beaverton, Oregon, Kathleen Gail Slyngstad Aho of Rochester, Minnesota, Norma Jean Slyngstad Kikkert McDonald of Kirkland, Washington and Roy Edward Slyngstad of Olympia, Washington. Helen is beloved by all her four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She will also be missed by countless friends and family.
Cards of condolence may be sent to the family in care of Kathy Aho, 3405 NW 17th Avenue, Rochester, Minnesota, 55901. Memorial gifts are suggested to St. John Catholic Cemetery Association, (Clear Creek) Pilot Grove, Missouri.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, April 19, 2018 at St. John Catholic Church in (Clear Creek) Pilot Grove, with burial following in St. John Cemetery in Clear Creek. Rosary will be recited at 10:00 A.M. followed by visitation until the time of the service.
