Helen Lucille Doyel

Helen Lucille Doyel, age 93, of Maricopa, Arizona, formerly of Versailles, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Chandler Regional Health Center in Chandler, Arizona.

She was born January 12, 1925, in Barnett, a daughter of Jim and Maud Groom Bonine.   On July 9, 1944, in Versailles, Helen was united in marriage to J.H. “Jack” Doyel, who preceded her in death April 25, 1992.

Helen was a homemaker, busy raising four children and being a supportive wife to her husband.  She and Jack also owned and operated their own business for several years.

In 1976, Jack and Helen moved to Springfield, where she remained until 1993, when she returned to Versailles to be near her siblings.  In 2004, Helen moved to Lohman, where she lived with her daughter Carol.  In 2013, Carol and Helen made the move to Arizona, enjoying the sunshine and warm climate throughout the year.

She kept her mind and hands busy working jigsaw puzzles and sewing.  Helen was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed making quilts for family and friends.  Her most recent quilt was given to a great grandchild just a few years ago.

For the past few years Helen enjoyed spending time with her beloved cocker spaniel, Bonny, who made a wonderful companion while Carol was at work and also served as a very reliable watchdog.

Helen had attended the Versailles United Methodist Church and while in Arizona would often attend church with her daughter.

Survivors include four children, Jack Doyel and wife Debbie of Greeley, Colorado; Bruce Doyel of Versailles, Carol Wunderlich of Maricopa, Arizona and Mike Doyel and wife Hope of St. Louis; one sister, Arlene Ferguson of Versailles; nine grandchildren, Chris, Rhonda, Shannon, Erica, Kelley, Robyn, Michael, Amy and Jordan, eleven great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Alvin Wunderlich and five siblings, Flora Jones, Marjorie Darrow, Earl Bonine, Paul Bonine and Carl Bonine.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Monday, November 26, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Chris Bass officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Monday.  Interment will be in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles Cemetery.
