Harold Eugene Matheis

Harold Eugene Matheis, age 79, of Russellville, died Friday, December 19, 2008, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
He was born May 4, 1929, on the family farm in Cole County, a son of Arthur E. and Maud M. Barbour Matheis.
He was a graduate of Russellville High School. Harold was an Army veteran, serving his country during the Korean Conflict, receiving the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on August 7, 1953, achieving the rank of Corporal.
He retired from the State of Missouri, Division of Workers Compensation as Supervisor.
Harold was a faithful member of the Enon Baptist Church near Russellville. He was also a member of the Elks Club and the Roscoe Enloe American Legion Post 5, both in Jefferson City.
He enjoyed spending time in his garden.
Survivors include two nephews, John Russell and wife Joanna of Holts Summit and Alan Russell of Russellville; four nieces, Kay Green and husband Danny of Jefferson City; Jane Russell of Jefferson City; Marilyn Gilliam and husband Donald of Farmington and Becky Russell of Jefferson City; many great nieces and nephews, also other relatives and a host of friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marguerite Russell.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 22, at the Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Phillips officiating. Burial, with military funeral honors, will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday, December 23, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Enon Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
