Harold Sylvester Knipp, 96, of Tipton passed away peacefully at SSM Health St Mary’s Hospital Jefferson City, Missouri on February 14, 2024.

He was born southwest of Tipton on April 21, 1927, the youngest son of Carl and Rosa (Hartman) Knipp. He graduated from St Andrews Catholic School and Tipton High School.  Mr. Knipp served in the Korean-era US Army as a member of the post-World War II peacekeeping forces in Europe.  Upon returning from France, he married Carmelita (Wolf) Knipp on February 20, 1954, at St Andrews Catholic Church. Together they raised eight children.

He was a life-long Tipton-area grain, hog, and cattle farmer, with two designated ‘Century Farms’.  He found great joy in attending church at St Andrews and in being with family, including Dale and Carla Knipp and their daughters, on the farms.  He delighted in providing hayrides and tractor rides to grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family.

Mr. Knipp served on several boards including the St Andrews School Board, the Tipton MFA Board, and the Tipton Nutrition Center Board. He was active in the local Tipton American Legion Edgar Cole Post 304. He helped prepare meals at the St Andrews Thanksgiving Day celebration for many years.  He was a champion of education and of treating others with respect and dignity.

Surviving are his children and their spouses:  Delores Knipp (David Berens), Monument CO; Rosella (Kent) Schad, Holts Summit, MO; Sylvia (Steve) Scheidt, California, MO, Juanita (Paul) Thompson, Wildwood, MO; Thelma (Dennis) Scherping, Chesterfield, MO; Vincent (Diana) Knipp, Ballwin, MO, and Sharon (John) Prenger, Columbia MO, along with 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Mr. Knipp was preceded in death by his wife: Carmelita, son: Ronald, and granddaughter, Nora Schad.

Prayers of the Rosary will begin at 9:00 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tipton, with visitation to follow until 11:30 a.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2024, at the church with burial to follow in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be John Scheidt, Dane Schad, Jon Paul Thompson, Brian Scherping, Alexandra Knipp, and Josiah Prenger.  Full military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Tipton American Legion Edgar Cole Post 304.  The family suggests donations to the St Andrews School Foundation, the Tipton Nutrition Center or Central Missouri Ronald McDonald House.  Arrangements are in the care of Meisenheimer-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Tipton.
