Grace Menhennet, 101, of Tipton, died Friday evening, July 9, 2021, at home surrounded by family.

Grace was born January 2, 1920, in Greenville, S.C., a daughter of John Thomas and Annie Lou Ida (Hudson) Leslie. She was united in marriage to Morris D. Menhennet on March 3, 1939 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mesa, AZ Temple. They shared 63 years together before his passing in 2002.

At the age of five, the Leslie family moved to Mesa, AZ. Grace graduated from Mesa High School in 1937. In 1947 the Menhennets moved to a farm southwest of Tipton where Grace spent her time raising the children and taking care of the family. She spent many hours gardening, canning, sewing clothes for the family, as well as creating lovely embroidery and crochet handwork, and quilts for all the children, grands and greats.

Grace was dedicated to her faith and held many positions including Primary Secretary, teacher for Young Women, Sunday School teacher, President of the Relief Society, and worked tirelessly in the Family History Center.

After the children were grown, Grace worked in the Tipton and Syracuse schools’ cafeterias, volunteered at the Price James Library, the bloodmobile and the Maclay Home.

Grace is survived by children: Alice Brush of Sedalia, Verna Koechner of Tipton, Darrell and wife Karla Menhennet of Tipton; brother, Bill Leslie of Show Low, AZ; seven grandchildren: Betty, Paul, Gail, Matt, Dana, Austin and Tony; eighteen great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Melba Moore; siblings: Guy Leslie, Melvin Leslie, Johnnie Leslie, Lois Wing, Jessie Gibbons, and baby sister, Margie; two infant grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tipton, where visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund, Price James Library or the Maclay Home.

The family of Grace Menhennet is so grateful for Central Missouri Hospice, whose care, guidance and friendship throughout this process will always be treasured.

Arrangements are in the care of the Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton.
