Gerald "Jerry" Allen

Gerald E. Allen, "Jerry" , age 87, of  Florence passed away peacefully, Wednesday afternoon, April 22, 2020 at his home, following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 23, 1932 in Kansas City a son of Leslie Jay and Georgia G. Allen. On January 15, 1973 he was united in marriage to Peggy Smith in Miami, Oklahoma.  Peggy preceded him in death on April 20, 2019.

He was a 1950 graduate of Ruskin High School in Kansas City.       Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force, receiving his honorable discharge in 1956 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.     For most of his life he worked as a tool and die machinist in the Kansas City area.      After his retirement, Jerry and Peggy moved to the Florence community, where he loved working on the farm and seeing the many animals that also called it home.  He enjoyed fishing, participating in and winning several of the local tractor pulls, watching the hummingbirds at the feeder and the birds gather in the tree and the feeder outside his window.         He is survived by two sons, Robert E. Allen and his companion Rachel Frank and Leslie Raymond Allen; five grandchildren, Keith, Robert Jr., Becky, Eddie, and Sheila; nine great grandchildren, Keith Jr, Brooklynn, Sydney, Slater, Kimberlina, Kyle, Khloe, and Korben; three nieces Leslie, Georgia, and Mary and their families; along with other relatives and  friends.      In addition to his wife, Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara Allen Flack.       In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated.  Private family services will be held with burial in the Allen family plot in Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Benton County Hospice.
