George W. "Bill" Campbell

George William “Bill” Campbell, 92, of Olathe, KS, formerly of Versailles, MO, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023, at The Healthcare Resort of Olathe.

He was born May 14, 1931, in Deerfield, MO, a son of Roscoe Conklin Campbell and Mary Bernice (Higbee) Campbell.

On March 7, 1976, in Springfield, MO, he was united in marriage to Judith Jane (Gainer) Snodgrass.

Bill was a graduate of Ft. Scott High School. He attended Ft. Scott Junior College and Emporia State University. He enlisted in the Army, serving three years during the Korean War. He served in the 40th Division, 187th Airborne, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Bill worked three years for the family business, Campbell Laundry, and then for Western Insurance Co. Later he and his wife purchased Marker Insurance Agency, Inc. in Versailles, MO.

Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his step-son, Mike, were proud to have won 1st Place in the 2009 Crappie Masters Ultimate Challenge at Truman Lake. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles.

Surviving are his wife, Judith; two children, Jeanna Sue Campbell and Stephen William Campbell; two step-children, Michael Snodgrass and Laurie Snodgrass; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, R.C. Campbell; and a sister, Effie Joan Sager.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Ft. Scott National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, KS.
