George Elwyn Scheperle, 93, of Lohman, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Heisinger Bluffs in Jefferson City. Elwyn was born October 17, 1924, in Millbrook, Missouri, a son of the late George and Lydia (Gemeinhardt) Scheperle. He graduated from Russellville High School in 1942. Elwyn joined the United States Army in 1944, and served overseas as part of the US occupational forces after Germany’s surrender in World War II. He was united in marriage on June 11, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville to Edna Louise Ott who preceded him in death on December 28, 2016. After the war, Elwyn retuned to Millbrook and began operating excavating equipment, a vocation he continued well into his later years. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown serving as deacon, trustee and treasurer. He was a member of the Missouri Land Improvement Contractors Association (LICA), served on the Board of Directors for the Farmers Bank of Lohman, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling with Edna, hunting, fishing, and just visiting with friends and family. Survivors include his daughter, Susan (Mark) Schenewerk, Roeland Park, KS; sister-in-law, Juanita Godsey, Jefferson City; nieces and nephews, David (Bonnie) Scheperle, Dennis Scheperle, Colin (Ruthann) Woehrer, Marsha (Jerry) Propst, Judy (Larry) Baysinger, Walt (Cindy) Haberaecker; along with great-nieces and great-nephews, other extended family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Cleo and Ralph Scheperle. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2018, at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown, with Pastor Gerald Scheperle officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery-Stringtown. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice Compassus, St. John’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
