Galen Paul Oehrke, 70, of Stover, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025, at his home.
He was born on April 29, 1955, in Versailles, MO, a son of Glenn W. and Donice JoAnn (Alpers) Oehrke.
Born in 1955, Galen was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stover on May 15, 1955, and confirmed in his faith on March 30, 1969, with his confirmation verse from John 8:31-32: "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free".
A 1973 graduate of Stover High School, Galen went on to build a long and dedicated career as an accountant for the Sedalia Democrat, where his sharp mind and steady work ethic were highly respected.
Galen was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he joyfully served in many ways, including on the church board and most notably as the church organist for more than 35 years. His love of music shone through every note he played—whether during Sunday services, weddings, funerals, or children’s programs. His talent and devotion left a lasting mark on generations of worshippers.
Beyond his music, Galen had a keen eye for art and a passion for antiquing, always finding beauty and value in things others might overlook. He was also known for his homemade ice cream, which often brought in generous bids at church auctions. Galen’s caring heart was evident in the way he reached out to others—delivering soup or some of his famous ice cream to neighbors and friends when they were sick or in need of comfort.
Galen lived a simple, humble life rooted in faith, kindness, and community. His quiet generosity, musical gifts, and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
Survivors include one sister, Linda Metscher of Stover; two nephews, William Metscher (Lexi) of Stover, Travis Dority (Kaye) of Rocky Mount, four great-nieces, Kelsey, Kendra, Kenleigh, and Justine; three great-nephews, Austin, Quinten, and Luke.
In addition to both of his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Jonathan Oehrke.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stover. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church with burial to follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Stover.
