Fredrick Dean Nolting

February 1, 1939 — September 28, 2025

Stover

Fredrick “Fred” Dean Nolting, 86, of Stover, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025, at his home.

He was born on February 1, 1939, in Glenstead, MO, a son of Herbert L. and Mildred A. (Viebrock) Nolting. On April 26, 1957, in Stover he married Mary E. Rapp who survives of the home.

Fred was a devoted and lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stover, where his faith was at the center of his life. He was baptized on February 28, 1939, at his parents’ home and confirmed on June 1, 1952. Over the years, he faithfully served his church by singing in the choir and on the Church Council, lending his talents and commitment to the congregation he cherished.

Fred’s dedication to his hometown extended well beyond the church walls. He served the Stover community in many roles: as a member of the rescue squad, assistant fire chief, a member of the City Council, on the Stover Cemetery Board, and as part of the beloved Stover Coffee Club, where neighbors gathered to share ideas, solve problems, and plan for the good of the town.

An avid outdoorsman, Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling throughout his life. His love of working with his hands and his inventive mind led him to establish his own business, Nolting Long Arm Manufacturing, where he created breakthrough products that transformed the worldwide quilting community. His ingenuity left a lasting legacy, providing tools that helped countless people pursue their passion for quilting.

Fred’s life was defined by faith, service, and creativity. He will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to his community, and his ability to turn ideas into innovations that touched the lives of many.

Survivors include his wife Mary of 68 years; a daughter-in-law, Joan Nolting of Lee’s Summit; three children, Kim Decker (Ken) of Versailles, Bradley Nolting of Stover, Carey Nolting (Vicki) of Florence, one sister-in-law, Carlene Nolting of Versailles; two brothers, Ronnie Nolting (Rita) of Stover, Herbert “Butch” Nolting (Judy) of Holts Sumit; eight grandchildren, Lauren Nolting (Shaun Newkirk), Stephen Nolting, Abbey Clark (Joel), Kelsey Rymer, Landon Rymer (Lisa), Rachel Nolting, Trevor Nolting (Jamie), Carley Kumberg (Dual); and ten great-grandchildren, Keiley, Joeley, Gracen, Rhyker, Nova, Granger, Hallie, Jace, Carter, and Stella; one great-great-grandchild, Kalan, and many nieces and nephews.
