Frances M. Wolfe

August 29, 1920 — February 1, 2021

Frances Maureen (Phillips) Wolfe, 100, of Pilot Grove, passed away peacefully Monday, February 1, 2021, at the Katy Manor Extended Care Facility, located in her home community of Pilot Grove.

Frances Maureen Wolfe was born on August 29, 1920, to parents, Riley and Hazel (Schlotzhauer) Phillips, of Pilot Grove (Pleasant Green).  Frances graduated from Pilot Grove High School in 1939.  Frances spent her childhood years in the little town of Pleasant Green, just outside of Pilot Grove, and it wasn’t long after high school that she established roots of her own there.  She married Virgil Wolfe, a fellow Pleasant Green kid, on September 3, 1945, just soon after Virgil had returned from serving his country in World War II.  During the war, Frances stepped up as many did, and worked at a munitions plant for some time.  Frances did graduate from beauty school not long after high school, but most of her working life she concentrated her time and efforts into being a farm wife, which consisted of her wearing many hats and putting in many hours working alongside of Virgil, helping where needed.  Frances was also well-engaged in her little, tight-knit community, being an active member in the Pleasant Green United Methodist Church and also the Pleasant Green Women’s Society.  Frances didn’t have much in the way of “down time” living on the farm, but when she did have a free moment, she could likely be found either spending time in the garden or tending to her several rose gardens she had through the years.  In her later years, she appreciated any moment she could spend with family and adored her grandchildren and especially enjoyed the time she had watching over her great grandchildren.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father Hob Stevens, her husband Virgil Wolfe, her son Rex Wolfe, and her brother OJ Phillips.  She is survived by her children, Miles Wolfe and Joy Dillner (Byron), grandchildren, Nancy Skain (Patrick) and Bradley Dillner (McKenzi), and great-grandchildren, Karsyn Skain and Ren Skain.

A committal service will be held at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2021, at Pleasant Green Methodist Cemetery.

There will be no formal visitation, however friends may pay their respects and sign the guest book from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Pilot Grove.
