Esther Victoria Caviness

Esther Victoria Caviness, age 93, lifelong resident of Versailles, passed away Friday evening, August 18, 2017, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.  She was born April 20, 1924 in Versailles, the only daughter of Charley M. and Mary A. Webb Marriott.  On September 20, 1941, Esther was united in marriage to Jess W. Caviness.  Jess preceded her in death October 31, 1994.  She was a homemaker, busy raising her six children.  Esther also worked at the Head Orchard south of Versailles for several years.  She attended the West Union Baptist Church.  She loved to fish, hunt mushrooms and work in her large garden.  Her greatest enjoyment came from her family and the time she could spend with them.  Survivors include four children and their spouses, Evelyn “Sue” and Calvin Waisner and Dorsey “Buster” and Brenda Caviness all of Versailles; Ruth Ann and Don Evans of Council Grove, Kansas and Richard Caviness of Denver, Colorado; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  In addition to her husband, Esther was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Robert Caviness and Stanley Caviness, five brothers, Cecil, Herschel, Everett, Dorsey and Howard Marriott, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
