Ernestine Todd, 84, of Kansas City, formerly of Clifton City, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Kansas City Hospice House.
Born December 6, 1936, she was the oldest of eighteen children of Daniel Lee and Juanita (Conness) Griffith.
Ernestine grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated from William Chrisman High School.
On June 21, 1953, she was married to Harry Eugene Todd, Sr., who preceded her in death on October 27, 2016.
Ernestine worked for Western Electric, retiring in 1989 after 25 years of service.
She was an integral part of the Clifton City community. Having served as a first responder for the Clifton City Fire Department, the helicopter landing pad was dedicated in Harry and Ernestine’s name. She also helped with the annual fish fries, and was involved in the establishment of the Katy Trail. She also served on the board of the Providence Cemetery and enjoyed attending events at the Lamine Community Center.
Her hobbies included cooking, canning, going to auctions, gardening, and selling their produce at the farmer’s market.
Ernestine will be remembered for her strong will, but she was always there to help when there was a need. She loved her family fiercely.
Surviving are three children, Melinda Daniel (Garry), of Kansas City, Harry Todd, Jr. (Patricia), of Independence, and Cheyenne Todd (Angela), of Independence; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by eleven siblings.
A private funeral service will be held, but the public is invited to the graveside service which will be held at approximately 12:15 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2020, at Providence Cemetery near Smithton.
Friends may pay their respects and sign the guest book between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Otterville.
Those attending will be required to wear a mask.
