Erma Woolery, age 90, of Florence passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Capital Region Medical Center.
It was on the 17th day of May in 1933 when Albert and Eunice (Engleking) Goff welcomed there daughter, Erma J., into their home in Sedalia. She was a 1951 graduate of Smith Cotton High School.
On May 27, 1951, Erma was united in marriage to Floyd N. Woolery in Sedalia, who preceded her in death on April 22, 1998. They moved to Florence and made a home their where Erma lived until 2023 when she moved to Clarksburg to live with her son, Larry.
Erma was a hard worker. She worked for the pants factory in Tipton for seventeen years, then went to the jacket factory in Versailles for seven years. While working as a seamstress she was a member of the Cotton Garment Workers Union. She finally retired at the age of 84 after working as a home health aide for Four Season for sixteen and a half years. She also worked for several years in different polling places during elections.
She was a faithful member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Florence. She was also a member of the Ladies KOLA club.
When she wasn’t working, spending time with her family was her greatest enjoyment. She loved spending time playing rummy with anyone that would play. She mostly loved playing with her granddaughters Samantha and Micki. She was a wonderful cook and taught her daughter-in-law, Brenda how to can. She didn’t mind traveling, but being home taking care of her family was where her heart was. She liked to watch the hummingbirds that she fed on her front porch, tend to her flower beds outside and her house plants inside. Erma was a wonderful person inside and out and will be missed greatly.
Left to carry on her legacy are her two sons, Larry Woolery and wife Brenda of Clarksburg and Darrell Woolery of Florence; three grandchildren, William Woolery, Samantha Miesner and husband Ryan, and Mickala Woolery; two special nieces, Tammy Simmons and JoAnn Schultze; adopted nieces, Stacie Myrick, Ruby Ladner, and Mary Stubblefield; along with many other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amanda Jean Woolery; all her siblings, Norman Goff, Cynthia Cardwell, Evelyn Lutz, Marvis Wampler, Mary Ann Cardwell, and Goldie Goff.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 8, 2024 at the Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Stover from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
