Eleanor "Torchy" M. Hurst

Eleanor M. "Torchy" Hurst, age 91, of Gravois Mills, died Monday night, June 23, 2008, at the Laurie Care Center in Laurie.
She was born April 3, 1917, in Kansas City, Kansas a daughter of the late Harry and Juanita Carrington Amend.
On June 24, 1937, in Kansas City, Kansas, she married Clarence D. Boyer and he preceded her in death June 18, 1958. She married James V. Hurst on December 16, 1963, in Ardmore, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death January 26, 1999.
In the mid-forty's "Torchy" and Clarence, along with Ed and Marge Carrington, purchased Two Waters Resort in Gravois Mills. A few years later the Boyers opened Boyers IGA and later the Hilltop Motel, which they owned and operated for several years.
In the mid-sixty's "Torchy" and Jim Hurst moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where they resided until returning to Gravois Mills more than 25 years ago.
She had been an active and faithful member of the Gravois Mills United Methodist Church, where she served as choir director. She also was a charter member of the Business and Professional Women's Club in Gravois Mills. She had been an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Elks Auxiliary.
She was currently a member of the West Lake Christian Church in Laurie and had been active in the Red Hat Club, the Birthday Club and the Newcomer's Club.
A little over a year ago, "Torchy" moved to the Laurie Knolls Living Center in Laurie.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Barbara Boyer of Jupiter, Florida; extended family members, Ed and Marge Carrington of Gravois Mills and their daughter, Mary Carrington-Harris, also other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 26, 2008, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Jim Stovall officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Park Addition of the Versailles Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 26, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles.
