Edward Otis Carter

Edward Otis Carter, 78, of Stover, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, Missouri.

Ed was born July 16, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Arvil Wilson Carter and Wilma (Talent) Carter.

On March 17, 1968, in Indianapolis, Ed married Phyllis Marie Enochs. Together, they shared 55 years of marriage before her passing on March 27, 2023.

Ed spent his working career as a City Dispatcher for Yellow Freight Trucking. He was a devoted family man who took great pride in being present for the people he loved. Over the years, he especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and attending their games, activities, and other important events. He loved America, the military, and Indiana Hoosiers basketball. Being at the lake brought him peace, but above all, Ed treasured time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the memories they made together.

Ed is survived by his four children, Michele Dunn (Leslie) of Park Hills, Angie Brinkmann (Chris) of Columbia, Keith Carter of Farmington, and Kim Collins (Chris) of St. Charles; eleven grandchildren, Jimmy, Ashlee, Steven, Tina, Grace, Josh, Briana, Mercedes, Tyeler, Hunter, and Jesse; seven great-grandchildren, Brayden, Chase, Roman, Lydia, Cas, Aurora, and Hazel; and one sister, Lavada Galyean.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Phyllis, Ed was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilson Carter and Tony Carter, and two sisters, Faye Carter and Debbie Carter.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Stover City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Ed’s honor to the Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
