Edna Mae Green, 97, of Blackwater, Missouri passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville.
Edna was born April 8, 1918 to Thomas Richard and Mattie Lee Calvert in Boonesboro, Missouri. She was raised along with four sisters and a brother in Howard County where both her parents had also been born and raised.
On March 31, 1934, at the age of 16 Edna was married to Wm. Lester Green and to that union 14 children were born. Edna was totally consumed with the raising of such a large family. The cooking and cleaning that was necessary for Edna as a housewife and mother was done with great love for her husband and children. Edna was fiesty with a good sense of humor. She and Lester lived in the Blackwater community for many years and were committed to each other as husband and wife until his death on July 25, 2006.
Edna and Lester enjoyed watching golf matches on television together and she also liked to watch soap operas as she got older. She loved traveling and took several trips with her children creating many memories.
Edna Mae Green was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wm. Lester; son Delane Green; brother Clyde Calvert; sisters Georgie Forsee, Marie Head, Helen Turner and Laura Pearl Grimm.
Edna is survived by sons Frank Green and his wife Clara of Boonville, Winfred Green and his wife Donna of Paducah, KY, David Green and his wife Marvina, Joe Green and his wife Lila, Steve Green and his wife Lorraine and John Green, all of Blackwater; daughters Genevieve Mayes and her husband Herbert of Greenville, KY, Mary Lou Henry of Columbia, MO, Barbara Thurman of Blackwater, Carlene Babini and her husband Bob of Albequrque, N.M., Coleen Hays of Blackwater, Pat Morris and her husband Gip of Coouncil Bluff, IA, Susan Fenton and her husband Danny of Blackwater; 41 grandchildren; 105 great- grandchildren; 55 great-great grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.
Funeral services for Edna Mae Green will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Old Lamine Church of Christ with burial immediately following in the Old Lamine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Pilot Grove.
Donations in Edna's memory are suggested to the Salvation Army.
