Duane Emil Levin

August 21, 1941 — October 27, 2017

Duane Emil Levin, age 76, of Versailles, passed away unexpected Friday, October 27, 2017, at his home.

He was born August 21, 1941, in Smith Center, Kansas the only child of Emil Franz and Alma Bertha Molzahan Levin.

He was a 1959 graduate of Agra High School in Agra, Kansas.  Duane received his bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University in 1963 and his Master of Divinity degree in 1967 from Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa.

His call into the ministry led him to Stover, where he met his future wife, who happened to be the church organist.  On August 21, 1966 Duane was united in marriage to Marene Bockelman at Christ Lutheran Church in Stover and she survives at their home.

He answered the call to serve at various churches throughout the years, namely; St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tescott, Kansas; Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Stuttgart, Kansas; St. John UCC in Florence and United Lutheran Church in Cole Camp.  He also served as supply pastor in numerous congregations in the Central States Synod of the ELCA; recently receiving recognition for being in the ministry for 50 years.  He was currently a member of the Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church in Sedalia.

In retirement he enjoyed being on the family farm, which had been in his wife’s family for many years.

Duane was a member of the Sedalia Concert Band, and was Bee Keeper of the Year in 1977.  He enjoyed substitute teaching in the Stover school district and was an avid history buff.

In addition to his wife of 51 years, he is survived by one son, Darren E. Levin of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; along with numerous cousins, colleagues, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 2, at the Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church located at 3201 Southwest Blvd in Sedalia, Bishop’s Associate Rev. Susan Candea officiating, and Mother Anne Meredith Kyle assisting.

Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, in the Kipp Addition of the Stover Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.
