Dr. John T. Peterson

Dr. John T. Peterson D.V.M., age 80 of Russellville, died Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City.
He was born November 1, 1926, in Junction City, Kansas, a son of Religh and Josephine Tritle Peterson. He had three siblings, Religh J. Peterson, Jr., David L. Peterson, Rosemarie Peterson.
He married Rubye F. Ayers on September 18, 1976, in Liberal, Kansas and she preceded him in death May 10, 2001. He married Maryjane Wilde Meyer on September 14, 2007, in Jefferson City.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Peterson practiced veterinary medicine in Junction City, for 17 years. He then worked for the USDA meat and poultry inspection service for 21 years.
With the inspection service he was posted in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma and spent two years overseas, inspecting plants for export to the United States. He was then posted in Washington, D.C. where he inspected plants in eastern Canada and the Maritime Islands. He also accompanied Canadian veterinarians while they inspected US plants. His last posting was in Columbia, Missouri.
In 1982 he moved to Russellville and resided there until this past June, when he moved to Jefferson City.
He is survived by his wife, Maryjane and her children, Paul Meyer, Jonathan Meyer, and Danielle DeCook and her six grandchildren, Rubye's five children, Pamela Germany, Stephen Griffith, John Thomas Griffith III, Jeffrey L. Griffith, and Mark "Tracy" Price, and her nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 20, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Inurnment will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Salvation Army.
