Dr. Steve Byergo

December 27, 1947 — November 13, 2025

Tipton

Dr. Forrest Stephen Byergo, 77, of Tipton passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.

He was born on December 27, 1947, in Maryville, MO one of eight children to Forrest Emmet and Mary Louise (Mayes) Byergo.

Steve was a longtime Tipton veterinarian and beloved community member, known affectionately as “Doc.” He faithfully served the Tipton community and surrounding areas as the trusted Veterinarian at Tipton Veterinary Clinic since 1971.

Born with a love for animals and a heart for helping others, Steve earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in 1971. He and his wife, Sheri Lynn Sheets, began their life together after being united in marriage on June 7, 1970, in Troy, Missouri. Their partnership was one built on love, faith, and a shared commitment to family and community.

A devoted member of the Tipton United Methodist Church, Doc lived out his faith through service, compassion, and generosity. He was also active in the Tipton Jaycees and the Tipton Chamber of Commerce, and he remained a proud supporter of the Tipton FFA, encouraging generations of young people with an interest in agriculture and animal care. Professionally, Steve was a dedicated member of both the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Beyond his career, Doc’s passion for life and people was evident in everything he did. A true Missouri Tigers fan, he could often be found cheering on Mizzou’s football and basketball teams. In his younger years, he enjoyed coaching his sons’ youth sports teams in Tipton—whether baseball, basketball, or flag football—creating lasting memories and friendships along the way.

Some of his fondest times were spent on the family farm in Barnard, Missouri, alongside his brother Andy and his three sons. There, he was proud to be an honorary member of Byergo Angus Farms, a family operation that has been in existence since 1950. Those moments of fellowship, laughter, and hard work reflected the very best of who Doc was—humble, dedicated, and deeply connected to his roots.

Steve will be remembered for his kind heart, steady presence, and lifelong commitment to his family, friends, and community. His legacy lives on through every life he touched—both human and animal alike.

He is survived by two sons, Stephen Scott Byergo (Amy) of Columbia, MO, Brad Byergo (Susie) of Chesterfield, MO; four granddaughters, Anna, Ella, Allison, and Katherine.

Steve was preceded in death by both of his parents and his wife Sheri of 54 years on January 25, 2025.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Tipton United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Tipton United Methodist Church.
