Dorothy Jean Spence, 95, of Versailles, MO, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
She was born on July 24, 1926, at New Lebanon (Cooper County) Missouri the daughter of Bennie and Flora (Leap) Spence.
She attended several rural schools, graduating from the 8th grade at New Lebanon School and from Pilot Grove High School in 1944. After attending Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg, she taught in several rural schools and at Blackwater Elementary School in Cooper County.
Dorothy was employed at Inter-State Studios in Sedalia for several years and then at Missouri Farm Bureau in Jefferson City. She later held executive housekeeping positions at Ramada Inn and Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City and Plaza Inn in Kansas City. For several years she was involved as co-owner of a trucking business, retiring in 1987. Dorothy resided in Jefferson City for 44 years and then moved to the Lake of the Ozarks where she made her home since 2004.
Dorothy loved her Savior and faithfully attended church services as long as she was physically able to do so.
Throughout her entire life she has enjoyed outdoor activities including deer and turkey hunting, fishing, gardening, and flowers. She also enjoyed a good game of 6-point pitch.
She is preceded in death by her parents Bennie and Flora Spence, four brothers, Lawrence, Richard, Earl (Sonny) and Wayne Spence; a sister Margaret Rogers.
Dorothy is survived by a dear friend, Ruth Morrison of Vichy; a sister-in-law, Margaret Spence of Pilot Grove, many nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Versailles, MO at 10:30 a.m. with the funeral service starting at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be at New Lebanon Cemetery, Cooper County, MO (on Highway A south of Pilot Grove) following the funeral service.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or New Lebanon Cemetery Association.
