Dorothy Louise Rockelman

Dorothy Louise (Hiemeyer) Rockelman, 84, of Russellville, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017.  She was born August 19, 1932, the daughter of the late Frederick Marcus and Lydia (Stubinger) Hiemeyer.  Dorothy was raised by her grandparents, Mathias and Elizabeth (Huettenmeyer) Stubinger, three miles north of Russellville.  Her education began with Mount Hope School and she graduated from Cole R-1 Russellville High School with the class of 1950, excelling in business courses.  She was united in marriage on October 16, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville to August Edward Rockelman who preceded her in death on May 13, 2006.  As a housewife, working on the farm with her husband of 53 years, she milked cows, tended to chickens, canned or froze garden produce, baked dozens of cookies, hundreds of cakes and pies.  Her specialties were Leb Kuchen and gooseberry pie.  Dorothy was a gifted seamstress, sewing garments for her family and doll clothes.  For over 59 years she shared her perfect pitch musical talent by serving as organist of Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville.  Dorothy sang solos at many weddings, funerals, and the Alto part in many duets and also in the Russellville Community Choir.  She also played the organ for numerous weddings and funerals, and played the piano.   She was a Vacation Bible School and Sunday School teacher, quilter in the Ladies Aid holding office as Treasurer.  In the ALCW, she was Secretary of Stewardship and Treasurer.  She was an active participant in Women of the ELCA, Retreads senior church group, and the former American Legion Post 4543 Auxiliary.  Dorothy also served as a volunteer election poll worker.  Dorothy enjoyed crosswords puzzles, music, and loved animals.  Her precious cats will miss her.  Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Rockelman, Jefferson City; one son, Dan (Pat) Rockelman, Russellville; one grandson; two step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Orlean Rockelman; three nephews; three nieces; one niece-in-law; several great nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents;  her grandparents; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Guilford and Edna (Rockelman) Heidbreder, Oscar Rockelman, Wilbert and Viola (Jungmeyer) Rockelman; one nephew; and a nephew-in-law.  Visitation will be 3:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017, at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville.  Additional visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.  Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville, with Pastor Ed Merckel and Pastor Howard Ellis officiating.  Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to Musical Therapy services or to Animal Therapy services.
