Dorothy Elizabeth Landon "Dottie" Barron, age 84, of Versailles, Missouri, died Thursday night, May 21, 2009, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
She was born September 22, 1924, in rural Pilot Grove, Missouri a daughter of Rosswell Deming and Rosa Lee Racy Landon. On April 18, 1944, in San Francisco, California, she was united in marriage to James L. Barron who preceded her in death July 2, 1991.
Dottie was a graduate of Blackwater High School in Blackwater, Missouri.
The Barron's resided in Kansas City, Missouri from 1946-1957, when they moved to Versailles. They had owned a cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks for several years and wanted to raise their family close to the lake and in a smaller community. They purchased the Western Auto Store in Versailles from Talmage and Langston Henderson and on April 15, 1957, Jim and Dottie began operating the Western Auto Store. They continued to provide quality service to Versailles and the surrounding communities until their retirement on April 15, 1988.
In Versailles, Jim and Dottie were active in the community. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Clubs and also volunteered for several events in Versailles. Dottie was talented with the guitar. At the age of 14 she played and sang with a group from the Boonville area on a radio station in Sedalia, Missouri. She continued to enjoy playing at home and participating in local jam sessions. Following their retirement, Dottie and Jim enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John Lowell and Marilyn Barron of Perry, Missouri and Stephen Ross and Rita Barron of Versailles; three sisters, Nadine Vivian of Lee's Summit, Missouri; Mildred Cornine of Marshall, Missouri and Vivian Weston of New Franklin, Missouri; a brother and sister-in-law,
Vernon and Shirley Landon of Lebanon, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Katie Landon of Blackwater; four grandchildren, Jon Michael Barron, Kevin James Barron, Eric Stephen Barron and Jennifer Michelle Barron, three great grandchildren, Dillon Barron and Dakota and Dustyn Barron, also other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Dainie and R.D. Landon.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 26, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles. Interment will be in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time on Tuesday, May 26. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Royal Theatre in Versailles.
