Donald E. "Don"Case, age 79, of Stover, died Monday, November 2, 2009, at his home.
He was born November 30, 1929, at Versailles, a son of Louis U. and Cora M. Blackman Case. On April 17, 1954, Don was united in marriage to Greta G. Fajen at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover. Greta preceded him in death on June 16, 2009.
He was baptized in 1940, in a creek north of Stover. He was confirmed April 3, 1955, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover.
Don was a 1947 graduate of Stover High School. He attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, receiving an associate degree in Business.
He was an Air Force veteran, serving his country in the Korean War, achieving the rank of Sergeant.
Don was a carpenter and builder, building many homes in the Stover community. He also managed the family business, Fajen Lumber Company in Stover.
He was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover, using his skills as a master craftsman to build the cross, communion rail and baptismal font at the church.
Don was known for his skill on the diamond as pitcher for the town Fast-pitch softball team. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed a good competitive round of golf, the challenge of a crossword puzzle, and working in his garden. He was also a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. However, his greatest enjoyment came from the time he could spend with his family.
Don is survived by three children, Jeffery Case and wife Patti of Paducah, Kentucky; Julie Kern and husband Mike of Grover, Missouri and Leslie Stubblefield and husband Donnie of Plainfield, Illinois; two brothers, Harold Case and wife Dorean of Stover and Merl Case and wife Genevieve of Warrensburg; two sisters, Mary Mattoon and husband Dick of Kansas City, Missouri and Ila M. May and husband Bob of Sheridan, Wyoming; ten grandchildren, Jeremy Case, Gretchen McCabe and husband Philip, Lauren Case, Michael Case and wife Lauren, Meagan Kern, Courtney Kern, Adam Kern, Chelsea Himes and husband Eric, Joshua Stubblefield and Nicholas Stubblefield, two great grandchildren, Kellar Dax McCabe and Alexandra Rae Himes, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 5, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover with Rev. Cecil Murdock officiating. Interment, with military funeral honors, will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 P.M. Wednesday, November 4, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
