Don O. Engelbrecht

Don O. Engelbrecht, age 80, of Stover, died Thursday, January 8, 2009, at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City.
He was born May 4, 1928, in Jefferson City, a son of Otto A. and Jessie Pearl Gibler Engelbrecht, both deceased. On June 4, 1954, in Stover, Don married Ella Lou Alpers. She preceded him in death October 30, 2006.
He was a 1945 graduate of Stover High School and an Army veteran, serving his country in the Korean War. Don, along with his wife, son and daughter-in-law, owned Bronzwood, Inc. in Stover. Bronzwood, a turkey and cattle farm, was established in 1941, and became incorporated in the late 1940's.
Don was instrumental in bringing Ralston-Purina poultry operations to Mid-Missouri. He started and managed the Cole Camp Hatchery in the early 1960's. He was the first hatchery breeder manager for the Ralston-Purina operations. Don was involved in the building of the processing plant in fall of 1963 and the new hatchery in Stover in 1965. Don owned and operated American Ag Air Ventilation Systems, and later traveled extensively for Cargill and his own ventilation business.
He was a faithful, active member of the Stover United Methodist Church. Don served in the Wesley Builders Class, on the building committee, and was a longtime chairman of the Trustees.
He enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He and Ella Lou loved to travel, especially with their good friends Bob and Margie Cooper. Don has been in every state of the Union, except Hawaii, and truly loved to vacation in Canada.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Gina Engelbrecht of Stover; three grandchildren, Paige, Blake and Amber Engelbrecht of Stover; a sister-in-law, Vivian Engelbrecht of Florida; two nephews and their wives, Martin and Grace Engelbrecht of New Jersey and George and Claudia Engelbrecht of New York; great nieces, Stephanie Engelbrecht of Utah and Cora and Lila Engelbrecht of New York;
also other relatives and friends.
One daughter, Karen Kay Engelbrecht and one brother, Robert M. Engelbrecht also preceded him in death.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 13, at the Stover United Methodist Church with Rev. Diane Cutler officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Stover Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, January 12, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Contributions are suggested to the Stover United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
