Dennis E. Purvis

Dennis E. Purvis, age 69 of Tipton, Missouri passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City.

Dennis was one of 9 children born to John E. and Gertie A. Purvis. He was born September 27, 1948 in Boonville, Missouri. He graduated from Versailles high school in 1967. He worked as a lineman for Kiowa Line Builders, TNW and Davis Elliott. Besides farming most of his life Dennis also worked at Gyer Gas, Potter Trucking and Windmill Truck Stop, all in Boonville. He worked at Replamar Farms in Versailles, MFA Elevator and Striderite in Tipton and Fasco in Eldon.

In 1972, Dennis married Loretta "Wendy" Needy and they worked together on the farm and also owned and operated the Country Quilt and Embroidery Shop, which was moved from the farm to Tipton after Dennis had his first heart attack in 2001. He was great at using the embroidery machine but didn't take to quilting.

The family called Dennis a "gentle-natured" man who was a cowboy at heart. He participated in local rodeo's as a bull rider. He loved his wife, son Rex and especially his grandson Alexander along with his "adopted" family,

Preceding Dennis in death are his parents; sisters Peggy Sue Beckett and Teresa Stone and brother-in-law Randy Gibson.

Those surviving Dennis are his wife Loretta W. Purvis of the home; son Rex Allen Purvis and his wife Mona of Boonville, Missouri; brothers Kenny Purvis and his wife Ruth of California, Missouri, John Purvis and his wife Joyce of Ashland, Missouri, Jimmy Purvis and his wife Debbie of Columbia, Missouri and Herbie Purvis and his wife Treneice of Utah; sisters Joyce Gibson of Prairie Home, Missouri and Lisa and her husband Dr. Tom Meyers of Columbia, Missouri; grandson Alexander D. Purvis; "adopted" family Mike and Jeannie Tuttle, Jonathan Tuttle and his wife Taylor, Ruby Tuttle, Jeromy Tuttle and his wife Shanyn, Evelyn and Henry Tuttle, Elizabeth Tuttle and his godchild Jenna Tuttle; many nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service for Dennis E. Purvis will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 15, 2018 at The Cowboy Church located on Highway 50 East of Tipton with burial immediately following at IOOF Cemetery in Tipton. A visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton, Missouri.
