Darwin Archie Smith, age 64, of Russellville, went to be with his Lord, Friday, July 8, 2016, at University Hospital in Columbia surrounded by his family.
He was born July 1, 1952, in Jefferson City, a son of Leroy Frank and Nelda Marie Scott Smith. On June 2, 1973, at the Annunciation Catholic Church in California, Darwin was united in marriage to Beverly K. Distler who survives at their home.
He was a 1970 graduate of Russellville High School.
Darwin was the Building Trades Supervisor at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, retiring after 32 years employment.
He was a faithful, active member of the Russellville Baptist Church.
He enjoyed being outdoors, where he could garden, fish, and ride his bike. He also looked forward to traveling and going on vacation.
To all who knew him, Darwin’s walk with the Lord was an important part of his life. He led by example, giving credit to the Lord for his positive outlook and loving nature. His faith and his family were his greatest priority, and the things that brought him his greatest joy.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, he is survived by five children and their spouses, Sandra and Barry Crawford of California; Dustin and Melissa Smith of Holts Summit; Angela and Jeff LaCroix of Overland Park, Kansas; Karen and Brian Prenger of Russellville and Travis and Stephanie Smith of Lees Summit; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Linda Smith of Jefferson City; Dennis and Lee Smith of Russellville and Darrel and Helen Smith of Mary’s Home; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Garry Crocker and Brenda and Joe Eickhorst all of Russellville; a brother-in-law, Frank Procter of Olean; fifteen grandchildren, Luke, Jack and Nick Crawford, Mallorie, Allee, Kloe, Jison and Becca Smith, Isaac, Ben and Hannah LaCroix, Trevor and Chase Prenger and Emma and Brynn Smith, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Beverly Procter.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the Russellville Baptist Church with Rev. Dinzel Webb officiating. Interment will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, July 11, at the Russellville Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Russellville Baptist Church Benevolent Fund or the Enloe Cemetery.
