Darrell Glenn Dake was born August 12, 1949 at the family home in Iberia, MO to Joseph & Mary Jane Dake (Duncan). He began his strong work ethic at a very young age helping his parents and siblings at the family sawmill and farm. Whether it was helping around the homestead, tinkering with cars, or tending to animals, he could always be found somewhere outside from dawn to dusk. Working with his hands was a way of relaxing.
Darrell grew up in Iberia, MO and went to work for Allied Telephone Company. They transferred him to Stover, MO early in his employment and he would become known as the phone guy. After a couple of company name changes and technology advancements, he retired after 39 years of service. He and Linda remained in Stover to be close to their kids and grandkids going to family activities, hunting with his beagles, fishing, farming and catching up with friends at the local restaurants.
Darrell had a passion for old cars and looked forward to Sonic Summer Nights when he would drive his 1964 Impala SS and swap stories with other car enthusiasts. He was well known for bringing home great deals from auctions and getting someone else’s junk running. Many days were spent helping family or friends without ever expecting anything in return. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family whether it was having lunch with his brothers and sisters, camping or being Rylee’s puppet on a string.
Darrell departed this temporary home Sunday, February 14, 2021 after 71 years, 6 months and 2 days following a short fight with cancer.
Leaving behind to carry on his legacy is his wife Linda; children Johnny Dake (Monica), Michael Haley, Julie Folsom (Isom); grandchildren Brandon, Jordan and Mallory Folsom, and Weston and Whitney Dake; one great-grandchild Rylee Folsom; siblings Myrel Dake, Floyd Dake (Norma), Ritchie Dake (Mary), Pauline Humphrey, Barbara McDaniel, Beverly Pendleton (Danny) and Becky Buckley (Tom), sisters-in-law Jenny Dake, Lana Duncan (Doug), Margaret Vaughn, Joann Burns (Eddie), and Denise Leutkemeyer (Dean), as well as many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Mary Sue Dake, Robert Dake, Rosa Rowden, Donna Dake and Bonnie Pendleton.
In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until the Celebration of Life beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Dake Cemetery in Iberia, MO.
