Darel Eugene Wendelburg

A very bright light went out on December 4th, 2019 as Darel Wendelburg left this earthly life for eternal rest.

Darel was born on January 4th, 1940 in Hutchinson, Kansas, and grew up in Stafford, a close-knit farming community in central Kansas. His parents, Louis and Ena, his sister Geraldine and brother Loren preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 40 years, Sandi, his children Blake (Lisa), Brian (Sherry) and Robbyn (Bryan) as well as 6 grandchildren, Loren, Peyton, Caroline, John, Emma and Grace and countless friends.

Perhaps Darel’s greatest attribute was his ability to relate to his fellow human being. Being in sales nearly all of his life, he excelled in the art of communication with others. In spite of advancing cognitive decline and dementia the last several years of his life, he never lost the ability to reach out to his fellow man with friendly hello, handshake or pat on the back. Darel will also be remembered for his many talents including a remarkable knowledge of aviation and military history as well as his skill as gifted modeler. Being a voracious reader, he was conversant in almost any subject and was an ardent believer in conservative political philosophy. All will dearly miss his love of Family and Friends, keen wit, friendly demeanor and jovial personality. Darel truly lived and loved life.
