Cynthia R. Brodersen

Cynthia Raylene (Burns) Brodersen, 88, was born in Syracuse MO on March 5, 1938 and passed away on August 30, 2026 in Kirkwood, MO. She was the only child of Ray and Gladys (Walters) Burns.

Cynthia’s early years were in Syracuse, Mo before moving to the farm just north of Syracuse in 1953. After high school graduation in 1955, she attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg and met the love of her life, Duane Brodersen. She and Duane were married on August 8, 1958. They made homes in Prairie Home, the farm in Otterville, Lowry City, Lincoln and returned to the farm in 1999. On their 61 year journey together Duane and Cynthia were joined by 4 children: Dana, Benny, Cary and Matthew.

After graduation Cynthia primarily cared for their growing family and home. She taught home economics at Otterville and the Tipton women’s prison on a substitute and part-time basis. Cynthia became the Kindergarten teacher at Lincoln, MO when their youngest started 1st Grade in 1973. She spent the next 26 years in that role before retiring in 1999 and moving back to the farm.

Cynthia accepted Christ at 9 years of age and maintained membership at Baptist Churches in Syracuse, Prairie Home, Lowry City, Lincoln and Tipton. Cynthia was very active at church and served many different church roles throughout her lifetime, including various teaching roles, bible study leader, VBS and a church camp cook. A lifelong flower gardener, after retirement she joined the Grow & Glow Garden Club in Tipton and was the state chair of the Missouri Blue Star Memorial Program. She loved playing bridge, traveling, Delta Kappa Gamma, trying new recipes, visiting with friends, and the Red Hat Society.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents and Duane. She is survived by their four children: Dana (Bob) Aikin of St Louis, Bennett (Stacey) Brodersen of Kingsville, Cary (DeeAnn) Brodersen of Otterville, and Matthew (Karla) Brodersen of Columbia, nine grandchildren: Amy (Tyler) McCall of St Louis, Eric (Maggie) Aikin of St Louis, Austin (Anna) Brodersen of Lee’s Summit, Brandi (Cody) Banner of Otterville, Aaron Brodersen of Milwaukee, WI, Colten Brodersen of Kingsville, and Noah, Samuel and Lillian Brodersen of Columbia; and seven great-grandchildren: Sullivan, Elizabeth & Silas McCall of St Louis, Hayes and Halston Banner (Otterville), Ellis Brodersen (Lee’s Summitt) and Ruby Aikin (St Louis). Also surviving are several cousins and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday September 2nd at First Baptist Church in Tipton. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 3rd at First Baptist Church in Tipton, followed by burial at the Syracuse Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Tipton or the Loving Hearts Pregnancy Help Center in Sedalia.

Cynthia’s goal in life was to introduce others to Christ and we are certain she heard “Well done, my good and faithful servant” when she arrived in Heaven.
